I am currently redoing my website adding an Admin section to it. (dont ask why I didnt do it early in develment.) What the problem is I have been serfing the web for some time now and I can not figure out what encrypting protacall is need for the .htpasswd is it set up that the encrypt key is added in the password. or is it server set? I have found a few sites that say it is MD5 and others say its Salt. Plz tell me so I can add users/passwords to my file with out going to a out side website and hope it works! Smile

I think its based on MD5 on Windows, but on the crypt() function on unix.

See Howto create a password for a .htpasswd file using PHP.
