If I set up a .htaccess file to prevent hotlinking will it:

a. Work with .exe files that are intended to be downloaded.
b. Prevent users from keying the address of the .exe file directly into the address bar?

I would try to test it myself but my current server doesn't offer the service. I will move servers if the above are possible.

Thanks in advance

a: Yes, it will work with .exe files
b: No, you will need a download script and a login system to properly secure your downloads.

You could also setup .htaccess logins to enable the user/login feature.

I noticed that when I use Mozilla FireFox 2.x.x I do not get the red X error hotlink protected message when testing a link.
Is there a setting to use for firefox browsers?

Regards, Chris
